STEP 2: Board & Executive Alignment
One thing that is often important to demonstrate to executives, shareholders and/or your board is how you rank compared to others in your area and in your industry. The two documents below are examples of what you might want to gather based on what information is publicly available for your geography or your industry.
Bay Area Corporate Philanthropy and Silicon Valley 150 are rankings that are done annually by the San Francisco and San Jose Business Times. These two worksheets included in this excel document show 2004 combined data and will give the reader a sense of who the biggest givers are in their region as well as industry.
Programs will not be successful without the full engagement and support of the executive team and corporate board. If it is a venture-funded company, there must also be the buy-in of the venture capital firm.
Below are some practical documents that might be helpful for you as you begin the process of building your structure and gaining executive alignment. All of these documents are just samples and have been modified from their original purpose to be more generic in nature. Please feel free to make them your own and be sure to work with your own counsel to ensure their compliance with individual company policies.
