Lima, Peru October 2007
Six salesforce.com and Salesforce.com Foundation Employees spent eight days in Lima, Peru volunteering and team building. These committed volunteers came from the Nonprofit Vertical, Foundation, Marketing, and Sales and spanned the globe from San Francisco, New York, Philadelphia and Sydney. They lived in the Surco neighborhood of Lima. They spent their days in a shantytown municipality called Villa El Salvador. Their main mission was to make life more cheerful for 120 senior citizens. The center they served is called “El Martincitos”. Sadly, these elderly Peruvian citizens have been neglected by their families. Many of the program's participants are migrants from the Peruvian mountains. The salesforce.com team joined forces with fifteen other volunteers to rebuild houses destroyed by recent earthquakes, lead music and crafts classes, assisted with personal hygiene, etc. An organization called Cross Cultural Solutions, one of the salesforce.com's Foundation's business partners, and successful nonprofit customer, was the facilitator of the trip. Cross Cultural Solutions provides opportunities to volunteer abroad and work side-by-side with local people and experience another culture like never before. Bryan Breckenridge calls CCS trips his "short peace corp experiences". Lima was his second CCS adventure. His first in India, back in 2001 before he started with salesforce.com, spanned 6 weeks. He plans to continue going on them in the future. Visit the team's pictures. This group along with several other Salesforce.com Cross Cultural Solutions volunteers will be hosting a brown bag info session at our San Francisco office in the coming weeks.
