Grantees 2000

2000 Small Grants Program Sponsors and Recipients

Salesforce.com made a commitment to support employees that want to be community servants. One can imagine that within a start up it is difficult to find time to volunteer and give back to the community. However, salesforce.com employees are a special group of men and women. What follows is a description of how the Foundation established opportunities for employees to get involved, and how the employees responded with overwhelming enthusiasm and commitment to these programs. In the first year of operations, salesforce.com employees volunteered close to 500 hours, involved themselves in over twenty different volunteer opportunities, and gave the Foundation close to $50,000 in their own personal funds and through donated goods.

Buena Vista Auxiliary Club
Brian Millham, an employee in Business Development, and his wife Laura have made a great commitment to the Buena Vista Auxiliary Club. On behalf of Brian the Foundation granted $1,500 in May and another $2,500 in September to the Auxiliary Club, which tutors At-Risk Youth in the Diablo Valley.

2000 California Aid's Ride
Employee Daryl Garcia, in Client Services, took part in the AIDS Ride 2000, a 500-mile trek from San Francisco to Los Angeles, to support the fight against AIDS. Salesforce.com/foundation gave a $1,500 grant to the AIDS cause in the name of Daryl.

Avon Breast Cancer 3-day Walk
The Foundation supported employee Ali Covarrubias, Administration, and employee Cindi Pardini, Client Services, with $2,000 on July 28-30 in a walk from San Jose to San Francisco to fight breast cancer. The walk lasted 3 full days, but, according to Covarrubias, "it was worth every step."

National Multiple Sclerosis Society
Salesforce.com employees Eric Shunk and Julie Trell took part in the Waves to Wine bike ride in the Napa Valley. It was a 150-mile adventure which took them two days to complete. The event was to help the fight against Multiple Sclerosis.

Raphael House
The Raphael House is a safe house for the homeless who are victims of violence. The Steering Committee dedicated $5,000 to renovate a room in the building and also signed up for monthly volunteer nights cooking dinner for families in their kitchen.

Juvenile Diabetes Foundation
On behalf of Employee Rick Burwen, in Information Technology, the Foundation granted $1,000 for Rick and his wife to participate in a daylong walk to fight Juvenile Diabetes. The Steering Committee honored Rick and his wife's commitment to this organization, and thank him for his concern.
