8月4日から15日までの2週間、夏のボランティアウィークを開催しました！恒例の表参道清掃活動や子供地球基金アートボランティアに加えて新たな取り組みもはじまり、東京・大阪オフィスのボランティア合計時間は457時間にのぼりました。
Salesforce.com Japan (Tokyo/Osaka) has just finished a series of Volunteering Weeks from August 4-15. This is a special period for employees to actively join volunteer activities and the total amount of volunteer hours summed up 457 hours!
【絵本を届ける運動 Picture Books Activities】
夏・冬のボランティアウィークを通して最も多くの社員が取り組む人気の絵本を届ける運動です。これは、シャンティ国際ボランティア会が行っている活動で、子ども向けの図書がほとんど出版されていない途上国へ絵本を届けるお手伝いをするものです。社員は290冊の日本語の絵本に、カンボジア、ラオス、アフガニスタンの訳文シールを貼り、これを手にする現地の子どもたちのことを思い浮かべながら本を完成させました。2004年冬から数えて、今年で8回目の社内の取り組みでしたが、部署を超えて社員が集まって、一冊一冊思いを込めて完成させました。家族と一緒に自宅で、あるいは、いつもより早く出社してデスクで取り組む社員もいました。
Everyone loves “Picture Books Activities”, one of the most popular activities coordinated by Shanti Volunteer Association! We have supported the activities since 2004 where we send the books to developing countries (Cambodia, Laos and Afghanistan) where children are unlikely to have access to picture books. Employees are responsible for attaching the translations to the correct pages of the book. Thanks to the spontaneous participation by employees, 290 copies of the translated books were completed!
【みんなで布チョッキン Balls and Dolls for Kids】
社内でできる活動として新たに加わったのが”布チョッキン”です。幼い難民を考える会が実施している活動で、児童用の遊具がほとんど無いカンボジアにボールや人形を送るお手伝いをします。のボランティアの特徴は２つあります。まず、完成品を送るのではないということです。布を社員が持ち寄って裁断し、後半の仕上げまでの行程はカンボジアの女性が行うことで、カンボジアの女性の雇用機会創出を支援することができます。点目は、作った個数により社員が募金を行うことで、カンボジア側での縫製作業のための綿などの材料費や女性たちの労賃に充てられることです。
初回の8月6日(水)には幼い難民を考える会の福田晃子さんが東京オフィスにて活動背景や現地の様子を説明してくださり、参加した社員も真摯に耳を傾けました。
Cutting clothes for making dolls and balls” is a new volunteering activity to deliver toys to children in Cambodia where it’s hard to get them because of the insufficient educational environment. This is our first participation in the program run by a humanitarian nonprofit Caring for Young Refugees (CYR). Clothes brought by employees are cut along patterns and these are all sent to Cambodia by CYR with cash donations (500 yen for a ball, 1000 yen for a doll) made by employees which are to be used to support the rest of the process. That’s all what they do in the office. You may find it’s a strange half-finished work but there are reasons for that. Actually it’s really easy for us to buy and send them to the kids, but what's important about this activity is not only giving children toys but also providing women job opportunities by offering sewing and finishing the process. Plus, donations made by employees are used for shipping costs, material cost in Cambodia and salary for the women.
Following a talk from Ms. Akiko Fukuda from CYR on their mission, the background of the activity, and the current situation in Cambodia on August.6th, employees completed 11 dolls and 20 balls in 4days.
【西麻布作業所大掃除 Cleaning at a Vocational Training Center for People with Disabilities】
東京オフィスから徒歩5分のところに、西麻布作業所という授産施設があります。知的障がいを持つ方が自立に必要な訓練を行うとともに、授産活動を通して社会的に自立出来るように支援することを目的としています。この西麻布作業所の夏の大掃除に12名が参加しました。主な業務は、庭の除草、換気扇掃除、床磨きやワックスがけ、窓や壁のクリーニング。作業所職員と通所者のみなさんと協力しながらの作業でした。今年一番の真夏日だったため、特に戸外での作業はやりがいがありました。絞れるほどの汗を流して庭の除草を担当した Chief Technology Officerの及川喜之は、このような意義深い活動を是非社員のみなさんにもお勧めしたいと言っていました。13名のみなさん、お疲れさまでした。
Nishiazabu Sagyousho, a vocational training center for people with disabilities is a 5-mins walk away from our Tokyo office. This center helps people with disabilities live independent life by providing vocational programs. On a extremely hot day, 12 employees did a superb job by pulling up weeds, washing fans, wiping windows and floors together with the people with disabilities and the staff. Yoshiyuki Oikawa, Chief Technology Officer said ” I would recommend everyone to participate in such a meaningful activity.”
【表参道クリーニング Omotesando Clean-Up】
緑の美しい表参道にも、ゴミが沢山捨てられているのをご存知でしょうか。「きれいな街は、人の心もきれいにする」をコンセプトに定期的に清掃活動をしているGreenbirdの活動に、社員4名が参加しました。可燃物・不燃物に分けて２時間ほど掃除したところ、紙くずやタバコの吸殻のほかにも、特に人目のつかない場所には、ペットボトル、缶、傘、靴までありました。「ゴミやタバコをポイ捨てしない。」と宣言すれば、誰でもgreen birdのメンバーになることができます。みなさんも参加しませんか。

Do you know that there is a volunteering group which actively cleans up in Omotesando, one of the most beautiful shopping areas in Tokyo. Four employees who joined in the activity organized by Greenbird and they all surprised to see so much waste has been thrown away. After 2 hours of clean-up, their huge plastic bags were filled with paper scraps, cigarette butts, drink cans and bottles, umbrellas and even shoes!
【子供地球基金 Kids Earth Fund】
好例の子供地球基金でのボランティアは、2日間で14名が参加し、子どもたちが描いた絵画の作者情報の翻訳、子ども向けアートワークショップの準備などを行いました。スタッフに向けてITのアドバイスを行う社員もいました。また、ニュースレター発行のために3名が英語から日本語への翻訳のお手伝いをしました。
14 employees including 8 new hire contributed their foreign language abilities, imagination, artistic talent and IT skills for Kids Earth Fund.
【古本の回収 Used Books donation】
不要になった本・CD・DVDをリサイクルすることで社会貢献ができることをご存知でしょうか。自宅やオフィスに眠っているものを社員が持ち寄り、段ボール３箱相当分をブックオフコーポレーション株式会社に送りました。この買取額は国際NGO Room to Readに寄付され、教育支援事業に役立てられます。
Employees participated in a recycling campaign jointly organized by Room to Read and used bookshop Bookoff Corp. Used books, CDs and DVDs in 3 cardboard boxes were sent to Bookoff, and the total sales are to be donated to a international humanitarian NPO Room to Read for their educational programs in underprivileged countries.
【映画上映 Movie Screenings】
Earth Weekに引き続き、環境に関する映画を上映しました。13名の社員が昼休みにランチ持参で集まり、環境へのさらなる意識向上に努めました。
13 employees participated at movie screenings about green issues including global warming during lunchtime in the Tokyo office. It was a good opportunity for them to see what’s going on around the planet and what each needs to be done to save our earth.
