Malahide Volunteering Day

Malahide Volunteering Day

20 September 2008 Malahide Beach Dublin, Ireland
A group of Salesforce employees in Ireland spent a Saturday volunteering with; "Conservation Volunteers Fingal" which is a group that is made up of volunteers who work on practical conservation projects lands in the north county Dublin area.  The group, which is drawn from all walks of life and all age groups, comes together to undertake practical tasks aimed at environmental improvement and nature conservation.  They work in association with the Parks Department and Biodiversity Officer of Fingal County Council.  Outings take place on most Saturdays throughout the year and range from planting trees in Donabate to removing rhododendron on Howth Head, and woodland management in Blanchardstown. They also have an active social side where we swap saws and shovels for pints and some craic.

One of the volunteers, Frank-Stefan Rock (AE) reported; five of us from Salesforce.com made our way to Malahide beach at 10.00 am on a beautifully sunny Saturday morning. The objective was to clear away grass cuttings along the coastal path between Malahide and Portmarnock. By removing this grass, some rare species of plants such as orchids stand a better chance of proliferating leading to a more varied ecosystem.

A great time was had by all!'

Silvia Bajardo (Enterprise Business Representative) said ‘it was an amazing sunny day and we were very lucky to spend on the beautiful Malahide coast.  The people were very friendly, not only from SFDC but from other company as well (as Google) and different nationalities (Portugal, Argentina, German, Spain, Italy!). The work was quite hard but it has been a very good exercise!!  Michelle was very nice too and they provided coffee and ice cream as well!  For sure it has been an experience to repeat! Thanks a lot for giving us the opportunity to do it.'

Maria Del Mar Diaz (Enterprise Business Representative) said ‘I think it was a fantastic day, sunny day, in front of the sea, what else do you want? Nice people, nice work and nice weather. I would repeat it any time!!'
