BizAcademy: Giving Kids Valuable Real-World Business Experience

In a four-day entrepreneurial workshop, BizAcademy offers students from under served urban school districts opportunities they would never have otherwise: the chance to run their own company. With BizAcademy, high school students learn the business basics directly from talented salesforce.com employees and industry leaders like Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com and Salesforce.com Foundation, and Tim Draper, Managing Partner of Draper Fisher Jurvetson and founder and chairman of BizWorld Foundation.

The students are able to experience business from the inside out. They manage all aspects of a company from raising money and learning about finances, to manufacturing a product of their own creation, to marketing and selling their product all using Salesforce. And they get to keep the profits. In addition, students are placed in valuable summer internships. The program also offers scholarships for exceptional students to help pay for college—and a promising future.

Team One of A Kind

In the summer of 2005—the inaugural year of the program—25 students were chosen out of the 100 that applied. In 2006, at least another 100 students will be served. And the following year, that number should grow to 500. This scalable and replicable program is something that will become a hallmark of the Salesforce Foundation over time.
