Thirst For Knowlege: BizAcademy Reflection

Ju Moe BizAcademy April 2009

BizAcademy Reflection, April 2009

Ju Moe participated in the April 2009 BizAcademy in San Francisco.  He shares his thoughts on the program.

Hello, my name is Aung Kyaw Moe, I am also known as Ju Moe.  I was given the opportunity to be a part of the Biz Academy on April 2009 during my spring break from school.  I was actually quite surprised that I got accepted.  I never thought that I'd be given the chance to learn about business issues as an intern.

After being accepted, we were required to attend a 4 hour orientation, and honestly, I was extremely nervous.  I never interned before, neither have I had a job in such a professional environment.  I was thankful that we started by playing a game that I've played in my childhood because that really helped break the ice. This internship was for four days, and we spent those four days working on the assigned project of helping Salesforce.com achieve a spot in the Fortune Magazine's Top 25 Places to Work.

For my very first day at the Biz Academy, I woke up extremely earlier than usual with the thirst for knowledge. nWhen I arrived there, I noticed that everyone was around the same age, yet everyone looked very sophisticated and mature.  It felt different, in a good way, to be around people my age dressing so formally, I felt like I was growing up.  After we were placed in teams and assigned our project, my team mates and I came up with the team name Inspire Solutions. The reason behind this name is quite literal; we want our team's solution to be an inspiration.  Throughout the four days, my team and I worked hard because we were also competing against two other teams. In the end, Inspire Solutions came in second place.  Although first place was our goal, my team and I were not at all disappointed at the outcome because we were grateful for the knowledge we have gained from the Biz Academy and from working with each other.

Overall, interning at the BizAcademy has benefited me a lot. From this experience, I have learned to open up to people and socialize and engage in team work instead of working individually.  I've also learned how to compromise and negotiate with others and I've gained skills in marketing and financing.  In addition, it was wonderful how I was able to practice projecting my voice to make sure what I had to say was heard.

All in all, I just wanted to thank every one from the BizAcademy, the salesforce.com employees and the Myeep coordinators that supported me throughout this process to learn about business issues.  BizAcademy is definitely a beneficial program, therefore I hope they will continue to accept interns so more young teens who don't have many opportunities, such as myself, can take advantage of the internship and strive for success.
