5th May 2009 Dublin, Irelan

Kieran Carrick, with the help of the Salesforce volunteers: Eilis O'Shea, Ciara Williams,Sara Brophy, Peter Cullen, Nadia D'arcy, Edwina, Caroline Kennedy, Andrew Connell, Sharleen Tuite, Scott Brown and Neil Kirwan, hosted a School to Work Day on Tuesday 5th May, which went extremely well.  The day kicked off with a breakfast, during which Kieran introduced some of the staff who would be assisting with the day’s activities.  The students were then divided into different groups to take part in a team building exercise.  They were required to build a product with limited materials whilst referring to the following criteria: a. the product must have moving parts, b. it must serve a purpose and c. it should take few materials to produce (easier said than done, we all agreed!).

All groups gathered in the boardroom, discussed their ideas and then spoke briefly to Isabel Kelly, International Director of the Salesforce.com Foundation via videolink.  Following this, the students took part in an interview workshop.  Each student sat approximately 3 interviews with different interviewers, which enabled them to gain more experience of a typical interview situation.

On completion of the interviews, the students met back in the boardroom.  Kieran distributed their Certificates of Achievement and then provided pizza and soft drinks for lunch before the students went back to school.

Trisha Cooney, the teacher, was delighted with the structure and content of the visit.  She complemented Kieran on his excellent delivery of the classes, week on week and has already requested him for next year!

On behalf of Junior Achievement and Muckross College, I would like to say thank you very much for giving the students this wonderful opportunity.  I have no doubt that this was an invaluable experience for each and every pupil.

Many thanks and kindest regards - Bronagh Friel
