Pub Crawl with the National Council for the Blind Ireland

Pub Lecture
18 Feb 2010
Dublin, Ireland

On the 18th of February, 13 SFDC employees from the Premier Support team in Dublin, Ireland shared half of their day on a literary pub crawl accompanied by members of the National Council for the Blind Ireland (NCBI). NCBI is a nonprofit charitable organization which offers support and services nationwide to people experiencing difficulties with their eyesight.

The day started in “The Duke” pub on Duke Street in Dublin city centre, here we were paired with members of the NCBI that we would have the pleasure of escorting for the day. We took our seats in the upstairs section of the pub where we enjoyed a pub grub lunch and availed of the opportunity to get to know our partners for the event.

After lunch we were entertained with a scene extracted from Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot” and performed by members of the 'Dublin Literary Pub Crawl' Team.  Following this recital, arm in arm with our escorts and led by our learned guides, we left the Duke to absorb some literary history in Trinity College, O’Neills, and Davy Byrne’s pub.

With each stop, our guides delved into the significance of our current surroundings in relation to Irish literary history with specific references to James Joyce, Brendan Behan, and Oscar Wilde; quoting poetry and prose with ease. At the end of the tour we joined our escorts in Davy Byrne’s pub for a farewell drink before the event came to a close.

A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all that attended and our sincere thanks go out to our escorts for their wonderful company, the “Dublin Literary Pub Crawl” team for supplying such an entertaining tour and the National Council for the Blind of Ireland for providing such excellent activities for its members.
