Steve May, Account Executive, championed a CAT grant to help fund a science pond at a local San Francisco elementary school. His teammates helped with some heavy lifting! He shares his story:
My Southwest teammates met at Alvarado School and built a science pond from raw materials. We had 3 tons of large rocks (about basketball size) delivered to the school. Our team of 9 loaded the rocks and delivered them to the pond site. After clearing the area, we then set the rocks into a 7 foot diameter circle and made sure everything looked just right. We then mixed a bunch of mortar and applied it to the rocks to make them stick together. It was a full days work and it took a lot of great team work and cooperation. The whole experience was rewarding. We had a great time and our team had a chance to get out of the office and contribute to the SF community.
The Science pond swill be used by the Alvarado students to understand the lifecycle of pond plants and animals. It will be a great learning experience for the kids. California State public schools have limited funds and a team effort like this will deliver a great class room for the school's science department.
