Salesforce.com Foundation has held its annual “Biz Academy” in Tokyo from July 31 to August 4, 2006. This year, high school students designed their own virtual company in the field of office-related products. The goal of this five day program: to give students a taste of the atmosphere of an IT venture, boost their self-confidence, and help them build a positive image of themselves as future professionals. The five day curriculum included an introduction to business, human resources, finances, marketing, sales, business ethics, and presentation skills. It allowed students to experiment with business planning and financing, manufacturing, sales, and accounting. The academy was entirely staffed by salesforce.com volunteers, who contributed their skills as lecturers, advisers, and virtual clients. This year, 8 students participated, and we’re thrilled to hear about the benefits they derived from the experience:
“Now I am aware that nothing happens until I take a proactive step.”
“Thanks to the classes, I realized how many people are involved in the financial circulation resulting from the sale of one product, how mobile the world is. I see things from a completely new perspective.”
“It’s the same as life at large: there’s no giving up until the end!”
“What I’ve learned here in terms of ‘problem solving’ will be useful to me in the future”
We’re looking forward to providing this opportunity to more students next year, and hope to help them build a confident vision of their future careers.
