Salesforce.com Named to Corporate Philanthropy Top 50

San Francisco Business Times acknowledges salesforce.com alongside established firms like Wells Fargo and Levi Strauss in its prestigious annual ranking of the Bay Area's 50 largest corporate giving programs

July 12, 2003

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – July 12, 2003 – Salesforce.com, the world leader in delivering software-as-service, announced today that the salesforce.com/foundation has been named to the San Francisco Business Times annual ranking of the Bay Area's 50 largest corporate giving programs. This is the second consecutive year that the company has been recognized for its community service and corporate philanthropy initiatives and been invited to speak on the panel to all 800 attendees. Salesforce.com joins other top private and public companies on the prestigious list, including Levi Strauss, Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC), eBay (NSDQ: EBAY), Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT), Cisco Systems (NSDQ: CSCO), and IBM (NYSE: IBM). The list was published in the edition released today.

At the celebratory event for this recognition held Wednesday, June 10, Marc Benioff, Chairman and CEO of salesforce.com and salesforce.com/foundation, spoke to fellow corporate philanthropists about his business and philanthropy integration model. By donating 1% of profits to the community annually through salesforce.com product donation to qualified nonprofits, 1% of salesforce.com equity to its programs and 1% of employee working hours to community service, salesforce.com ensures that as the business grows so does its contribution to the communities in which it operates.

Benioff represented one of the youngest and smallest companies on the list and celebrated the fact that salesforce.com recently hit its first profitable quarter. He attributed the company’s success in the current economy in part due to its strong commitment to corporate social responsibility. “Companies that give, receive,” said Benioff. “We believe that in poor economic climates it is more important than ever to give back to the community. What you give tends to come back to you 10-fold in ways you may never anticipate.”
The San Francisco Business Times, a Bay Area publication that reports on local business news, also publishes the Book of Lists, honoring the Bay Area's hottest companies and their decision makers. Philanthropy rankings are based on cash and in-kind donations made to qualified nonprofit organizations in the Bay Area during the fiscal year ended 2002.

The salesforce.com/foundation harnesses the energy of the salesforce.com community to make a positive difference in people's lives through service and technology-related projects for youth, builds and manages integrated programs in communities around the world, and supports projects extending across the United States as well as Europe, Asia and Africa. As a result, cash and in-kind contributions extend beyond the Bay Area. Salesforce.com and the salesforce.com/foundation currently serve over 30,000 people through 41 technology centers in 8 countries.
