Giving kids a Chance - Munich office supports kids from the “Waisenhaus” orphanage

Approximately only 10% of children living in the orphanage of Munich, are kids without parents. The other 90% are children from deprived families or with families abroad. These kids especially need the help and support to integrate them into the society and give them a fair chance to live their own successful lives.

Most of the kids are coming from Afghanistan, Pakistan or African countries, where their parents still live. These kids can feel the pressure of their parents and relatives to be successful in Germany, getting a good job and earn enough money to support their families at home.

With different kind of education backgrounds, language skills and life experiences, these kids require different levels of guidance and mentoring. The orphanage in Munich provides a special program that helps and facilitates the children during the integration process.

A Job Training week with mock-panel and interviews is part of this program. The Waisenhaus asked Salesforce.com to support this Interview-Training day by:

• Moderating different workshops to work with the teenagers and to get them prepared for job interviews

• Supporting a role play for interview situations (good / bad example for interviews)

• Running interview sessions with the teenagers and providing feedback regarding their strengths and weaknesses, behavioural and communication skills, body language

It was a great opportunity for us, as employees of the Munich Salesforce.com office, to meet most of the teenagers and an excellent starting point for follow up activities. For the future it is planned to give regularly support in learning German and English, and in preparing applications for employments.

It was a wonderful day that gave us an impressive chance to help children in the orphanage and to get a better understanding of their daily challenges.

Heike Reissing, Co-ordinator at the Waisenhaus commented, "at this time of year, so many offers from companies come to us, but it is really just cheque writing, or worse, nothing at all. This is really happening with salesforce - and we need the help".
