School Girls Learn About Business in Salesforce.com Foundation's BizAcademy Dublin
Dublin; Thursday, 22nd February 2007: Twelve girls from St. Dominic's Secondary School, Ballyfermot have just completed a three day intensive business program, "BizAcademy", organised by the Salesforce.com Foundation in Dublin. BizAcademy is a three day course which aims to give its participants skills for the business world, encouraging confidence and a path to achieving their individual goals.
"We were really impressed with the drive, enthusiasm and the budding business talent that we saw. The students also demonstrated a great ability to work in teams which is a major part of today's business environment," commented Fergus Gloster, SVP Corporate Sales EMEA, salesforce.com.
During the program the students were taught how to present and successfully pitch new business ideas. This involved interactive sessions that both engaged and challenged the students to work through typical business and sales scenarios. Sessions covered key areas such as communicating effectively, messaging, researching and qualifying a lead in a sales cycle, handling objections and how to close that deal. This was all done with a clear goal in mind - to present their own "Youth Employment Agency" to two corporate boards, and win a business contract.
Sessions were delivered by over 20 salesforce.com employees, where company Vice Presidents and Account Executives shared their professional skills. Guest presenters included Ronan McNamara (Cumara), Cathy Riordan (Heneghan PR) and Oistin Mac Bride, all who donated their expertise to BizAcademy. Students divided into two competing teams, created their company name and then worked together on a presentation to pitch to two Boards panels. Board members comprised of senior management from SaasPoint, The TAS Group and the National Federation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) Ireland. The students planned the structure and content of their presentations, based on the skills they acquired during the BizAcademy sessions, and were aggressively graded by the Boards.
Roseanna Allen (17), spokesperson for the winning team said, "It was huge fun and very different to what we would normally do in school. The experience has really whetted our appetite to get involved in business in the future."
Mary Daly, Principal of St. Dominic's Secondary School added, "We are very grateful to salesforce.com for organising this, it has been a super experience for the girls. The education system would benefit from more business initiatives of this kind."
At an awards ceremony held last night at the Mansion House participants and volunteers celebrated their achievements. All of the girls were commended for the spirit and enthusiasm which they brought with them to BizAcademy.
