Connect Contacts with Opportunities

Wed, 2008-12-31 14:30
Hi all,

This is a very basic question.  I am very new to Salesforce, and I need some advice.  My only job right now is reporting, and I came late  into the Nonprofit project.   Our data has already been loaded.  Although we have Contacts and Opportunities in Salesforce, we don't have any Contact Roles.  Just one Contact ID per Opportunity.  Contact ID is set up as a custom field for the Contact page.   I would like to connect Contacts with Opportunities directly for reporting purposes, since we don't have Contact Roles.  Is this possible?  I guess I am looking for something like the ability to designate Contact ID as a foreign key into Opportunity, just for reporting purposes, so I can do simple reporting such as contact names, addresses, phone nums, etc,  for each Opportunity.  I don't want to disrupt the rest of the functioning of our Salesforce instance by whatever I set up.

Can someone give me some ideas?

Thanks.

Implementing Standard Account and Contacts in new Non Profit Org

Mon, 2008-12-29 08:39
HiI'm currently doing some work for a non-profit org and have just got the new Non Profit Org of Salesforce. I noticed that when you create an account and then create a contact at that Account that the Account Name is not automatically pulled through to the Contact (and has to be manually selected / entered). Is this the way it works in the new version to support 'Person Account' / Individual functionality or can I change a setting in the Org so that it pulls through the Account Name by defaultThanksSarah

I want to talk to a small nonprofit in DC area

Fri, 2008-12-26 09:10
I am looking at Salesforce.com for a small Washington, DC nonprofit that helps aging members of our community stay in their homes.   We currently manage our contacts and donors in Excel spreadsheets.  We want to move our "data bases" online making them accessible to staff and volunteers.  I assumed Salesforce.com would be overkill for our unsophisticated group but it appears that they offer a lot for the nonprofit community.  I would like to talk to someone in the DC area who has set up a Salesforce.com instance for a small organization to get a feel for the difficulty (and value) involved.

Managing both donors and grantees simultaneously

Tue, 2008-12-23 11:14
I'm setting up a new account for a foundation that gives grants.  They want to use SF to manage the donation cycle with donors as well as to manage all of their prospective grantees and contacts.  Each group would be managed separately though there would be some overlap.

The foundation has several branches, each of which focus on a region.  Some cover an entire state, others portions of a large city - Los Angeles for example.  Each branch is staffed by people that will want to focus on grantees and donors in their area.

We're using the new non-profit template.  What is the best way to set up the donors and their contacts as well as the grantees and their contacts so they can be managed by separate users/teams, have different reports available, etc?  We don't want any grantee mass mailings going to donors or vice-verse, for example.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give...

Sharing Salesforce between two organisations

Tue, 2008-12-23 03:30
Hello
I'm doing some work with a small non-profit that can't be registered as a charity (it does campaigning work and the charity laws in the UK say you can't be a charity if you campaign). I've emailed Sara Brophy about possible ways of getting them access to Salesforce and she suggested getting a registered charity to accept the donation on their behalf.

There is an organisation they work with that might be prepared to do this.....but they want to use salesforce too! In total, they wouldn't want more than 10 licenses though so is there a way of sharing Salesforce?

Perhaps by using roles and profiles to restrict access to the other organisation's records? Data protection is obviously the biggest issue (I think...).

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks
Nicole

Create Connector s-control broken?

Mon, 2008-12-22 08:18
Has anyone tried the Create Connector button on Contacts lately?  The button is not working in two different instances - you just get a blank area where the data fields should be.

I presume it's because the S-Control is using an old version of the toolkit.

I tried modifying the code this way, but it still doesn't work:
Code:<script src="/soap/ajax/8.0/connection.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/js/functions.js"></script> <script language="JavaScript"> sforceClient.init("{!API.Session_ID}", "{!API.Partner_Server_URL_70}"); var bean = new Sforce.Dynabean("Contact_Connector__c"); var def = bean.getDefinition(); // alert(def.urlNew); function redirect() { parent.frames.location.replace(def.urlNew+"—retURL=%2F{!Contact.Id}&CF00N700000021uFh={!Contact.FirstName} {!Contact.LastName}") } redirect(); </script>

Non Profit Starter Pack Sandbox Installation

Sun, 2008-12-21 14:13
Hi can anyone recommend a straightforward way to install modules 3,4,5 from the non profit starter pack into our sandbox? I may be missing something here, but here's what I have done. I click on the install option and in starts to install into production with no option to choose sandbox. Alternatively, I've hit the install link and used my sanbdox login which it will not accept. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

        Best,Mark

Integration with Paypal Donations, web forms, and Quickbooks

Thu, 2008-12-18 15:14
Hello,

We just received the donation of Salesforce for non-profits and looking for apps that would link with our Drupal website in development. We're new at this and a little overwhelmed by the different apps options!

Does anyone have recommendations of apps that would link up information entered through:
- Donations (Paypal or another system if comparable in price)
- Contact info entered on the website "contact us" page
- Links between Salesforce and Quickbooks for Mac

We're a Mac office and looking especially for apps that suited to and discounted for non-profits.

Thanks!

How to switch from Generic Trial to Nonprofit Edition?

Wed, 2008-12-17 12:52
We signed up for the generic trail and believed that we can switch to the Nonprofit full edition once we got the licenses proofed.  Is there a way to do so?  Or, we mis-understood how the versions work.

Please help!! Contact me at mei@heifetzinstitute.org

Thanks!

Converting from trial to license

Wed, 2008-12-17 05:43
I signed up for the non-profit free trial on 8th December. I need to attend one of the webinar's in order to continue the process however will be unable to do so until 6th January. This means my free trial will end before i have completed all necessary requirements to get the software donated. Does this mean i will lose my data/be unable to sign in?
Also, what address to i send the certificate of charity registration to (im based in the UK)? Many thanks Ellie

Salesforce.com Developer / Administrator / Expert available for part time freelance work.

Tue, 2008-12-16 22:49
Hello everyone,

I wanted to throw an offer out to all of the non-profits here that are implementing/thinking about implementing Salesforce.com for their organization.

I have implemented plenty of full-scale Salesforce.com implementations for varying nonprofits organizations, including university foundations tracking student enrollments, tourist destinations tracking donations and managing constituent relationships, mental health counseling facilities managing client programs, etc.

I understand the complexities that are involved with non-profits when integrating with Salesforce.com. I also understand that the non-profit template is "sketchy" at best. I always begin with the Standard template and customize the application to exactly fit the non-profit's process.

-I have acted as the Product Lifecycle Responsible for Salesforce.com for hundreds of users. This consists of Web Development, Business Analysis, Project Management and Account Management.
-I have solely architected the system for a deployment of 2000+ users for a Global deployment with multiple interfaces and customizations.
-I have implemented many full Salesforce.com deployments for both profit and non-profit organizations.
-I have created thousands of lines of Javascript and APEX for custom s-controls and Triggers and VisualForce to facilitate business needs.
-I have implemented system integrations using both Java and Cast Iron. (SAP, SQL, SFDC<>SFDC, etc)
-I have utilized all features within Salesforce.com. I am an expert with this system.
-I have a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology and a Master's degree in Management Information Systems.

I would like to perform ad-hoc Salesforce.com development work, consisting of configuration projects, code development, system administration. I can do any forms of development or full Salesforce.com deployments. My turnaround time is lightning fast.

Do you have any upcoming projects that would require a Salesforce expert? Do you have any custom APEX / s-controls / formulas / workflows / VisualForce / etc that you need created? What else can I help you with? I am willing to take any size project.

Importing Data - 2nd Contact Name takes precedence

Tue, 2008-12-16 07:01
Hi,

I have just kicked off a non-profit implementation, and am currently in test and discovery modem and a slightly verticle learning curve.  I am using the winter 09 Non-profit version of the software.

I currently have a very simple csv file with the following fields;

ID
LastName
FirstName
2nd Contact Full Name
2nd Contact Phone Number
Address1
Address2
Area
County
Childs Name
Child Date of Birth
Child Gender
Year Born
Date Joined
Send Invoice
Premium
Home Phone
Mobile Phone
e-mail
Branch
Description
Record Owner

I have created some custom fields, and so have direct mappings for all of the above fields.

My issue is that when I include the second contact name and phone number in my import, That data is used to created a contact, household and organisation records.  All of the other information is not being written to salesforce, or at least it is not being displayed.  I had expected that I would get one household, and two contacts for that household, both of which share the same address, and core data.

I do have the option to change my source data as part of the data cleansing exercise prior to go-live implementation, however I am curious as to how this should work, or what others have experienced?

Organization Name lookup does not show organization when trying to create a donation!

Sat, 2008-12-13 22:17
Hi all, I create a new contact, which automatically creates a corresponding organization. However, when I go to Donations to create a donation and try to pick the newly created organization for the donation, the lookup does not show the new organization. If I go to the Organizations tab and do a search there, I can see it listed there. If I then change the organization type from its default "One-to-One Individual" value to, say, "Individual", then the organization starts showing up in the lookup results when trying to create a donation. What gives? How can I assign a different default organization type when it gets created when a new contact is created? Berk

Determining best objects when customizing

Fri, 2008-12-12 17:30
I am working on building out a section of our system and keep running into the same question: would this be best handled using a distinct record type on a standard object, or should i create a custom object?

Does anyone have experience with this? contact me and I can tell you more about the specific details of the information I am working with.

Thank you

Defining record types for Donations (Opportunities), and 1 more ?

Thu, 2008-12-11 22:09
Hi, I am new to Salesforce.com. In our organization, we are trying to track membership dues, fees for certain services we provide (like language classes for kids), donations tied to specific fundraising events, general donations, and grants from organizations. We are also trying to tie these fees/donations to households in addition to individual contacts. As an example, we may have a certain family that has a family membership. The family may have one or more children who attend our classes and thus may pay a separate fee per child for those classes on top of their annual membership fee. The same family, or an individual from that family may also make a separate donation. We are trying to figure out a way to keep track of all this in the system so we can run reports on things like who has and has not paid their individual or family membership dues, who has and hasn't paid their monthly class fees, total annual donations/fees paid by family, etc. I have two questions. The first one is specific, the second one is more general: 1) How do I create additional donation record types? I tried creating additional record types for donations (they are actually referred to as Opportunities on the back-end). I can create a new record type, but I can't get it to come up in the pick list that originally had the "Donation, Grant, Major Gift, Matching Donation" record types. I was able to deactivate some of the built-in ones, but can't seem to get the custom one I created to show up as an option when I go to create a new donation. Am I missing something? 2) Recommendations on implementation. Given our situation, does anyone have any recommendations on how to implement the application to track different types of fees and donations I mentioned above? Thank you all. Berk Iz

Help needed for running LYBUNT/SYBUNT reports

Wed, 2008-12-10 15:57
I'm relatively new to Salesforce and am having a tough time figuring out how to run reports of donors who gave last year (or some year) but not this year. I have been told by Salesforce reps that it's not a function in Salesforce, which is quite surprising to me, as these are really basic and essential reports that fundraisers rely on. I was told that the only way to do it is run reports of last year's and this year's gifts separately, then put them in Excel and use V-lookup to get the list of LYBUNT donors. That obviously is not an intuitive way to perform a basic donor renewal function. Does anyone have any pointers? I greatly appreciate it.

Customising Organisation type

Tue, 2008-12-09 07:42
I am using the free trial of the not-for-profit salesforce and would like to be able to change the Organization 'Type' options to some which are more relevent. Is this possible? Many thanks Ellie
