2005 Volunteers of the Year

2005 Volunteers of the Year

Anne Haack, Senior Manager, Customer Marketing Programs

Salesforce.com, New York

Since the summer of 2004, Anne Haack has spent one mid-afternoon through early evening every month serving meals at the New York City Rescue Mission, America’s first rescue mission. For her dedication and consistency, Anne has been recognized as salesforce.com’s Volunteer of the Year, East.

“When I first moved to New York,” Anne recalled, “I wanted to become tangibly anchored in city life through something that extended beyond the usual hard day’s work and fun night out. The NYC Rescue Mission aims to restore people’s broken spirits through basic principles of love and respect. They welcomed my interest in volunteering on a consistent monthly basis but on a variable day.” Each month, Anne spends four hours working in the kitchen to help serve 150 – 250 meals to New Yorkers who need a helping hand. The Mission believes that providing a nutritious and warm meal to someone who is hungry and hurting often opens the door to a discussion of deeper needs.

For her efforts, Salesforce Foundation has donated $500 in Anne’s name to the New York City Rescue Mission

Chris Sommers, Sales Engineer - Strategic Accounts

Saleseforce.com, San Francisco

Chris SommersChris Sommers was picked as one of the volunteers of the year for the West Coast for his sheer ability to be everywhere and be involved with everything! The bulk of his volunteering comes in helping nonprofits implement salesforce.com into their business practices. Chris has done an amazing job helping both the Princess Project and Project Homeless Connect make full use of the donation of salesforce.com. This work has allowed both organizations to use salesforce.com to streamline business practices which is crucial to small organizations. Chris is also very active in supporting Foundation sponsored events. Chris was crucial in the development and delivery of BizAcademy, a week long entrepreneurial program for high school students. He was instrumental as a project manager lead in last years Dreamforce Community Event. He is also a regular participant in local Habitat for Humanity builds and has just started working with them to streamline their business practices. As if that wasn’t enough, Chris is always the first to jump in when anything else comes up or when we are in a bind and need a star volunteer. For all of this, and other stuff we probably don’t even know about, Chris Sommers is one of the West Coast Volunteers of the Year.
