John Durocher, Client Services Executive
Boston, Massachusetts [top]
Over the past year, John Durocher has spent time volunteering as a board member for Boston Partners in Education, was an employee member of the Equity Council, and lent a hand as an instructor for a Boston area soccer team. He has embraced the Foundation's integrated philanthropy model and has been an enthusiastic supporter of our programs.
As a board member at Boston Partners in Education, John has not only helped plan fundraisers, but also introduced the organization to our product donation program. They are now dedicated salesforce users and have participated in regional networking events in order to learn how to continue to use our product to more efficiently recruit, train and manage volunteers.
John was one of the first employees to raise his hand to be considered for our first ever Equity Council. He and other members served an invaluable role as grant reviewers and helped decide how the Foundation should award funds to nonprofit organizations in North America.
John's tireless work has earned him a 2007 Volunteer of the Year Award. Thank you, John, for all your hard work.
Jaret Manuel, Account Executive
Toronto Canada [top]
In April of 2007, Jaret Manuel approached the Foundation about starting a relationship with the Special Olympics Canada. His vision started with supporting their various events by providing volunteers from the Toronto salesforce.com office, and grew to bringing our product and dollars to the organization.
Thanks to his enthusiastic lobbying and support, the Special Olympics Canada was chosen as one of the key nonprofit relationships by the Toronto Foundation Sub-Committee (on which he sits as a member). This designation meant that employees would focus on ways to support this organization in all areas of the 1/1/1 model - time, product and equity. Throughout the year, Jaret has supported the Special Olympics Canada by volunteering at various events, raising money on their behalf by selling tickets at Maple Leafs games and have providing valuable consulting assistance (along with Darren Morgan to help them make the best use of our product donation.
Because of his leadership and enthusiasm, we are happy to recognize Jaret as a 2007
Suzie Menard, Program Manager, Custom Education
Maryland [top]
What would the Washington County chapter of Girls Inc. do without Suzie Menard? She has served on the board, provided office assistance, planned fundraising events and has even salsa danced with some of the girls. Her love and enthusiasm for the organization and its mission has not gone unnoticed as she was recently elected to serve as the President of the board.
And if her activities with Girls Inc. aren't enough to make you breathless, consider the fact that she's also involved with the Maryland chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, St. Mary's School and the Foundation's Americas East Engagement Committee.
If you ask Suzie how she does it all, she would tell you that she loves it all and that she is invigorated by giving back to her community.
To thank her for her energy and positive example, Suzie is being recognized as a 2007 Volunteer of the Year.
Alana Kadden, Corporate Sales Effective Program Manager
San Francisco [top]
After months and months of hard work and with the generous contributions of so many Alana was able to facilitate the creation & dedication of the Computer Lab at Sanchez Elementary School on January 8th, 2008
Alana is very passionate and proud of her collaborative efforts in creating the lab. She noted the computer lab has had an incredible impact on the school's 321 students-83% of whom live below the poverty line and 70% of whom are second language learners! She boasted that their reading scores rose 30% in one year (5 times the state average).
Bridging the digital divide is very close to Alana's heart and the Sanchez College Preparatory computer lab project moved the students a giant step closer with the donation of 22 new iMac computers from the Salesforce.com Foundation and many private funders. Alana's key strength and talent is fundraising. She helped to raise over $26,000 to provide Sanchez's underserved students the opportunity to join the digital revolution and access the worldwide virtual community.
When speaking to Alana about the computer lab she noted it took a dedicated team of volunteers to make this project a success and wanted to acknowledge the hard work of her co-worker Jonathan Unger and greatly appreciated his savvy technical skills and resourcefulness.
Alana's next goal is to create a community lab where parents and students can access the computer lap. The digital divide does not stop with the students but their parents and other family members need to have access and that is very important issue to Alana.
Alana's hard work with Banking on Our Future, a financial literacy program, speaks to the Foundation's focus on those youth who are "at-risk." Alana provided these students with financial planning. She taught a four hour course about how to budget, dealing with loans, credit cards, checking accounts, and other financial management principles.
These students came from a variety of programs, MYEEP, JVS, and Mission high school. One of the main challenges was reaching these non-native English speakers on their level. Alana found the experience personally enriching but a great reality check "I would come from Salesforce.com teaching eager employees about the product and then I would enter a world where I had to prove myself to these high school students".
Alana has been an active as a mentor in the BizAcademy for the last two years. As a mentor Alana has provided her mentees with valuable resources, advice about college, career, and continues the relationship beyond the formal relationship. She has also participated in the BizAcademy scholarship review process providing valuable feedback on awarding top candidates with the financial assistance to pursue their educational goals.
Sue Amar, Senior Business Analyst for Global Enterprise
San Francisco [top]
At a company meeting back in 2006, Sue Amar questioned Marc Benioff "What are we doing about the environment?". Marc found it to be a good question, but didn't have the answer and challenged her to do something about it. Not long after the meeting Sue created a plan for salesforce to become "one" with the environment and a "carbon-neutral" company. Sue, then rallied many people in the company to join the cause and awaken others to the severity of the climate crisis.
In 2007, Sue has dedicated her time as a co-chair of the Earth Council and has run a mural collaboration project between World Savvy, Precita Eyes, and Healing Arts. With the Earth Council alone, she served 140 hours working on the communications and discussions regarding Earthforce's mission to create a carbon neutral salesforce.com. Sue has not only worked on the Earth Council to promote sustainability, but she also has volunteered with other organizations to encourage them to be "green".
Sue's commitment and hard work can be seen on the mural outside of the Healing Arts building at 999 Sutter Street. With the Community Action Grant she received, Sue worked with World Savvy, Precita Eyes, and Healing Arts to paint a mural on the theme of Immigration and Identity. Youth of Precita Eyes expressed their creativity when putting together this work of art that depicts the unity and diversity of the community. After over 2 months, the mural was displayed at the Zeum Theatre at Yerba Buena Center as part of World Savvy's annual Youth Arts Media Festival.
She has dedicated 420 hours - about 83 days - in 2007, and is a great leader who has strongly contributed to the success of the Foundation's 1% model.
Caroline Roth, Senior Technical Writer, Development Services
San Francisco [top]
Caroline Roth has been a huge advocate for the Salesforce.com Foundation by being an active Time Council member. In 2007, Caroline dedicated about 12 days to volunteering. A successful project she took on in the summer of 2007 was the R&D Mustache-a-Thon that benefitted the American Cancer Society. She spent time setting up the project, recruiting participants, raising money for shirts and prizes, and updating the blog with pictures and comments. With the foundation matching the amount from her department, they raised over $12,000.
Another project Caroline has worked on is writing the Foundation newsletter exclusively for the R&D department. Her idea has been the personal touch to the newsletter, as the R&D teams discover what their fellow co-workers have been up to in terms of volunteering. She continues to give insight into the Time Council's VolunteerForce workgroup in order to create and improve VolunteerForce v2.0.
Because of Caroline's commitment and hard work, we are happy to announce that she is a 2007 Volunteer of the Year. Thank you Caroline for your dedication to making the foundation's 1% model a success.
Maria Willait, Account Executive, Field Sales
France [top]
Maria Willait is an outstanding example of employee-volunteer being able to support nonprofits in many different ways. Regularly volunteering with a number of organizations, she is been great as well in involving her colleagues to participate in community events. Make-a-Wish France is only one example where she showed her passion for social causes and her ability to fully understand the organizations' needs. From raising funds (Teleton+ Les Ecuries du Coeur) to Family support (Dixième Famille) she is simply brilliant at everything she does!
Maria is always open to help out with non-profits in need of extra support; she worked in implementing the system for ‘Les Ecuries du Coeur' showing great expertise about the application and strong ability in understanding the organizations' operational needs. Later last year she was also involved with ‘Les Jeunes Entrepreneurs de France' where she took care of their educational needs.

Steve Garnett, Chairman
EMEA [top]
Steve gave 121 volunteer hours in FY07 - the highest ranking volunteer in EMEA this year. Not only did he give a lot of time, but also raised £100K during the '07 ‘Teach First' Annual Gala Dinner, non-profit organization to which he's also Board member. ‘Teach First' is a UK charity which gets top graduates to commit to working for 2 years in challenging schools . In his outstanding commitment with this charity, Steve performed as inspiring leader, teacher, recruiter for new talents, financial catalyst and a lot more.
Steve is also been the leading personality in creating the philanthropic culture in EMEA. By being one of the strongest advocates of the Foundation programs both within and outside the Company, he acted as charismatic campaigner of ‘the giving back' philosophy. To name some this year: he spoke at a panel for ‘Public Service Venture Fund' in Israel with the ‘Minister of Social Affairs' Isaac Herzog; in Switzerland at the ‘Schwab Foundation Summit' he joined a panel of corporate executives from Microsoft Corp, The Boston Consulting Group, Deutsche Bank, Swiss Re, and Ernst & Young, discussing the business case for working with social entrepreneurs.
Steve also provided expert advice at events for non-profits using the application as well as advocating the use of the CRM tool with ‘businesses interested in philanthropy' virtually creating ‘a bridge' between the ‘for' and ‘not for' profit worlds.
Steve is a remarkable personality and his community involvement makes us all proud to be working with him.
Chris Rauch, Director Education, Professional Services
EMEA [top]

His commitment and hard work with the youths of ‘Back-up Trust.org' really showed Chris' good-natured, kind and generous personality, combined with a strong-minded and determined character. These qualities showed up again when teaching students from ‘Young Enterprise London'.
He's also been newly appointed onto the Board of Trustees for the Back-Up Trust.

Not only an active volunteer herself, she is good at rallying her team members and colleagues to join these activities. Jeff Challis, Senior Customer Success Manager
Melbourne, Australia [top]
Jeff has clocked a stunning 150 hours volunteering with the Wildlife Victoria in developing and implementing their salesforce applications. Through his hard work, Wildlife Victoria now has online membership payflow system, a proper membership management system, online registration for training and a portal for volunteers to register and manage rescue details. This is truly a great example of employee volunteering through specialised skills and knowledge and achieving the Foundation's mission to help nonprofits be more successful in their mission and objectives.
Having done all these, Jeff is not resting on his laurels but looking at new ways to improve and enhance the system including leveraging the customer portal, mashups with Google Maps, helping to integrate MYOB accounting package, and an online shopping cart for supplies. Way to go, Jeff!
"I was inspired to help out Wildlife Victoria after seeing a presentation done by them at a kids club event at our local vet. When I originally spoke to them, they said they needed a new system. They mentioned that they had tried salesforce.com out and had thought it could not meet their needs. I had to do a bit of convincing to even get them to let me try. Since then, we have not looked back." - Jeff
